Ruthie has a bunch of fantastic links on her class site to check out...

you will probably just need to sign in with your compass account.

Ruthie's links

AND...

Matthew Barney has created some characters for his Cremaster Cycle...and there is also a book in our library with fantastic images...Red N 6537 B223 A4 2004...as well as the 30 minute clip from Cremaster 3: The Order.

in the art of fashion realm...check out
Alexander McQueen
I also have the catalog from his recent show at the Met in New York if you want to take a look.

do a google image search for Maison Martin Margiela...his site is great too

and a bit in the "other" category...
people working with body modifications...(just to spark ideas...)

Stelarc...
a guy who believes the body is obsolete...he incorporates technology and robotics into his work...which is usually his body.
Yes...he has an ear on his arm.

Orlan is an artist who became known for doing performances while she underwent plastic surgery...she chose features from "ideal" women in artworks...such as the Mona Lisa...and had them implemented on herself to create a new identity.
Here is an interview.

and just because...
try looking up Cindy Jackson...known as the living Barbie doll...I think she's up to something like 61 surgeries now in order to look like her favorite doll...
here's an article about how Barbie has influenced our gender roles...

More later...
